Description

The dark water becomes a night sky flipped on its head — countless points of light scattered across the surface like a field of stars, each one flaring into its own tiny burst of rays. The near-black water, tinted with warm copper and rose, swallows most of the frame, letting the scattered glints do all the work: they cluster along the ridges of small swells, thin out in the troughs, and drift into a loose, irregular constellation that feels closer to astronomy than seascape. There's a stillness to it despite the implied movement of water — each point of light frozen mid-sparkle, sharp and star-shaped, refusing to blur into a single sheet of glare. It plays a quiet trick on the eye: is this the surface of the sea, or is it deep space, or a field strewn with embers going cold. That ambiguity is the whole pleasure of it — an ordinary reflection of light on water rendered strange and cosmic through framing alone.
